I am going to redo some of my favorite hairs, but I probably won't rebuild every hair in the store :/ I want to try to make new stuff too.

First up on the rebuild is Davinci Reloaded. You might remember the davinci hair. It was my first hat hair using sculpties. This one I tried really hard to make the LOD better. It's.. kinda better. Please look at the demo.

The old Davinci load is now sold in packs fo $L50. I still wear that hair, it's not like it's crummy. I just felt weird selling it for the same price as the new one.

I've been on a little lately, but I'm not really interested in anything beyond playing in blender and making silly things for my own amusement. I really like the new den dou skins though and I've been editing my shape to work with them.

When I'm not doing creative stuff, as I couldn't do for a few weeks now, I tend to go insane. I really need a creative hobby. SL was my creative hobby but honestly, it's kinda gross atm. Nothing like putting work into something that gets shit on by content rippers or whatever.

I got on for a little while last week to handle customer stuff, but this weekend I had went to a coding conference and tomorrow I have school after work.

I'm all brain bursty with ideas of sites and applications I want to build.

This upcoming Thursday I am getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled and I may end up on super duper percoset high for this upcoming weekend.

So yeah..
This has been a slow year for Gritty Kitty. I would like to apologize for that. Second life has always been a hobby, and this year I've had so much personal growth in what I do for a career, trying to grow all those skills and get a name for myself in my field has also become a hobby.

I am not quitting or anything. This isn't one of those "peace out bitches" blog posts that are kinda condescending because the author is like "I found better things to do with my time than stupid ol' second life, unlike you people who have an abundance of free time." I hate those.

I have made stuff when I do get online.This is just a "sorry I'm wicked busy lately, I haven't forgotten about my beloved store" blog post. I made jackets. They are all built and sculpted and textured in game. I made necklaces. I made new belts. I have a shitton of extra underpants and T shirts that didn't make it into hunts. There is stuff, it's just not finished & packaged stuff. I have a really short attention span so if I don't log on for a while I will start a new project and totally forget that I already had something like 90% finished.

Another thing that is kinda messing me up this year is all the theft. Just when I got comfortable with it, the cryolife viewer comes out and makes me unstable again. I make a lot of things for myself, that I don't sell until I get tired of it and some I never sell because they are mine. They define my avatar.

The vast majority of my store are things I made for myself and wore until I got tired of it. Because I now have a cryolife detector, I don't even like leaving my house in like.. my shape and skin. I ruth myself. O_O This makes the whole "I made this just for me to feel cool and wear around" thing an issue because where the heck am I going to wear my stuff? My skybox? Oh wow, there is some serious satisfaction from a job well done right there...
:/ It's like either I only wear it for the sake of me and only me seeing it while I stand in a T pose and build stuff, or I go out in the world and risk people just taking my personal shit that I worked really hard on.

I know I need to mentally get to that level where I just accept that shit happens and I can't protect myself, but I can tell you right now, I'm just raged about it. It sucks. It sucks and I feel voiceless in the community and I feel voiceless to Linden Labs. A contact from fucking microsoft will respond to me if I tweet "guh vista is doing this annoying weird thing" and try to help, but if I try to find someone from LL to answer a question I have about the TOS, it's impossible.

I need to end this post.

Windows Vista decided that second life was bad and deleted it from my system. Either my computer is telling me that I should take some time and spend it outside or with my boyfriend, or it's got a virus and it's just being a dick.

Assuming #2, last night I reformatted my computer and installed Windows 7. It took from when I got home at 7pm to 1am. I had to back everything up, then I downloaded the wrong version, then I had the wrong key, then I had to reinstall everything-which I still haven't done, I gave up after the drivers- So I am still offline. I haven't installed Second Life yet. I just remembered what a bitch it was to set up Blender the way I had it before and that's going to be a fun nightmare to relive.

In other news, I saw a great movie about a guy with swords for hands and bought a great movie called Executive Koala about a japanese business man who goes on a killing spree and just happens to be a giant koala. And yes, it was as awesome as it sounds.

OH HOLY SHIT I ALMOST FORGOT.

Change adds up, and even if you only bought like 1 hair from me that was the USD equivalent of $0.40, you helped me raise the money I needed to pay for my class this fall. The money that will be reimbursed by my company if I get a B... but I had to pay for it out of pocket first and it was really really expensive (I had a small panic attack after submitting my CC info.) It's that time again where you get the stamp cards in select marked vendors in my main store. Once you get the stamp cards you wait until the event begins and the stampers out side all the participating stores will turn on. Then you will be able to stamp your cards and trade them in for exclusive items.

Do I know dates? Of course I don't! I totally live with my head up by butt. I will keep you all posted though.

My gift this year is a painter's apron. I'm doing a theme now, the first time I did the event it was a gross paint covered bag full of art supplies much like the one I used to use in school, Winter was the sketchbook, and summer is this apron.

If I get invited back again, you bet the gift will be art themed again.

tiny tiny rant as my browser freezes

You know what's great about the second Life viewer?

Sometimes, when you shut it down it will lag for a second. And you'll hear ambient sounds.

You'll wonder where those sounds came from because when in game, you have those turned off.

And then you'll look at your system sound card and see not one, but three versions of second life that the sound card says are still open.

You check but the game does not appear to be open, you closed that an hour ago before you took a shower.

But then you check system resources, and it seems that something named Second Life is taking up fucking 25K.

Could turning it off at least work properly? Come on! It can make my CS3 run like shit when it's on, but when it's off SL should not be using resources ffs.

I love these glasses soo hard!!! Mostly cause one of the lense options has redtube.com reflected in it. RED TUBE IS PORNOGRAPHY! DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU ARE AT WORK OR A DELICATED FRAGILE PERSON SCARED OF PRIVATE PARTS.

Anyway, all the frames are darker colors and the lenses have reflections in them as well as normal lenses like black , rosey, yellow etc.

Hair & Glasses: Klaar & Ducklips

I've been wanting to redo AOI for a while, and while keeping that in mind I ended up with Klaar, which is different than AOI but still has pinned back bangs. I imagine it's what Cain looks like if you pull the bangs back.

Ducklips are called that because of the below reference picture. Look at her lips? Why is she doing that? It's not a kissy face. It's not an attractive face. I can't imagine why you'd do that expression unless you were playing charades and your word was "mentally handicapped duck."
Sweet glasses though. These are texture scripted with more retroy pastel-ish color as well as basic black and white.

I just started playing D&D with my friends, it's been about 2 months now and I'm a level 4 halfling Beastmaster ranger. I fucking love it so much. I don't think I would have played this in highschool, but now in my mid 20s I seem to be just the right age.
I own 3 sets of dice and they are all sparkly. :D I don't own my own mini yet, but I made one out of fimo to represent my pet bear.

The Koreshan Lag Issue

Lately Cobalt has been getting a lot of complaints about lag and greyness in my main store in Koreshan.
I don't have these issues, but then my computer is so godly that it exists on another realm of awesome. I realize the average SL user does not have a $5K gaming PC so I'll just pretend you all have macs which run SL like a piece of shit.

Some fun facts about Koreshan:

Koreshan is a full sim (15K prims)
Koreshan is on the same shitty lowest class servers that are used to host OPEN SIMS. (homesteads are on better servers than Koreshan)
Draconic owns Koreshan, it's her and Chica's baby.
Upgrading Koreshan to a proper server is more money than Draconic can afford
The additional tier fee is also more money than Draconic can afford atm
Draconic is way too sweet a person to get on people's asses about paying rent so as far as I know maybe 2-3 people are actually paying her rent right now.
We do not use images larger than 512X512 although last time we complained about lag, LL said the proper size to use is 256 X256 which would look like complete shit.
I try to turn off scripts everywhere when I can to reduce lag from users coming in

Draconic and Chicanery currently are working a lot IRL. Since it's hard to get hold of them and I really have no control over the sim, bitching out Linden labs is on hold for now.

First thing I'm going to do (maybe in a second or two since I just realized I brought my mac to work and it has SL on it), is I'm going to restart the sim. I don't know when the last time it got restarted was, and sometimes it just needs that to make it stop failing.

Second, I'm going to try to get Draconic to bitch a fit at Linden Labs over preformance. In theory I bet if you bitch a fit enough they might grandfather you into a better server, but it's Linden Labs. They are pretty confident that if you left, someone would just come in and take your place.

So that's the state of Koreshan atm.

The bakesale is scheduled to be this weekend but if the preformance doesn't improve, I might tell Chica we have to postpone it.

FAWNICATION

Last October I got it in my head that I wanted deer parts. I started some and I didn't like them. I used the antlers from that initial try in Hunting season.
Then I wandered around with Fade looking for deer parts recently but I didn't like anything I found. After a day of searching I figured it would be easier to make them, so I started making them again from scratch. Untextured I didn't like them. I was like meeeeeeeeeeeh.

But then this weekend I popped on that posing stand that had the ears to work on a bag and I was like heeey wait, these sculpts aren't too bad. And I proceeded to procrastinate finishing my bag by finishing the deer parts.

Long boring story. Yes. I know.

These have some animation, but not a lot. Click the ear and it twitches, type and they wiggle, do /32 sadears and they go sad. The tail just wiggles.
They come in 3 colors and they are L$250 a color (includes ears, tail & antlers).

New Scripts... coming soon

I got the final complaint about my current texture change scripts*, so now (hopefully this will happen) I am commissioning new texture change scripts for my hair and items.

I have a new hair built and ready to be scripted, so that will be out this weekend. I also might try to make a non scripted hair this week if RL doesn't get all complicated.

I remade my hair textures slightly and all hairs from this point out will be made with them. Same colors though. While redoing every color I have (this means my regular colors and my streak colors that I don't normally sell) I realized that I have enough variations to do 3 packs of hues for Red, Blonde, Brown, Blue, Purple, Pink, Green, Black/white. This is just for the hairs I made with the newer non-tipped textures.

So here is the question, how much bitching do you think I'd get from people if I started selling 3 packs for +$L30 to their original price? That would mean my L$130 hairs would be $L160 and my L$150 would now be L$180, but you'd get three shades of a color. MOST people only buy Black and blonde to be honest, so even thinking that a customer would be like "YAY 3 awesome shades of Blue" who isn't me (I love blue hair right now), is kinda of.. not going to happen. Transaction histories prove this.

The Pros and Cons.

PROS:

Save prim space.
Save actual vendor space.
The textures are already made
I think I have all my toaster scripted originals
I have to retoast my SRU scripted hairs anyway
More colors! Even if I'm the only one who gives a shit!

CONS:

Everyone only buys black, Blonde, ash & sometimes Rusty.
That's a buttload of hairs to repackage, extremely time consuming.
Chances of me fucking up vendors or scripting increased when I have to do it over and over and over.
Every nightmare I had toasting past hairs will be repeated.
Complaints from people who bought the hair before I did this. (although, I do have Cobalt.)
I'll actually be losing $L by grouping.
Losing $L makes getting sim eventually more distant.

But.. more colors. *strokes chin*

Any thoughts? How many people out there who have already bought my hair think they will be pissed to rebuy it for more colors?

*Since this last one came from someone who didn't even own the item they were complaining about, that was a great indicator that I need to change my scripts. As much as I hate re-scripting things, I hate being IMed about this stuff more.

Every person who purchases anything on Second Life, reguardless of nationality or language fluency, MUST know how to find their transaction history. It must become a standard that all asset server errors are dealt with by giving the vendor your transaction history in a notecard. Just copy and paste and put your name on the notecard.

I know getting broken English IMs in capital letters is not the end of the world, but having to do a normally simple task for someone who does not make any sense to me and I make no sense to them sucks big donkey balls.

The new changes SL is going to do, is basically creating an adult filter that wasn't previously there. The rational parts realize this. It's not something to shit the bed over.

This will be fun to watch pan out.

You know what would be rad? If you could check a box on an object and mark it as being mature and those who aren't verified or request not to see mature material just can't render it. Or it renders with black textures that say CENSORED, like how we used to have missing images.

I would prefer SL as it is. I know who wants it to change and I know why. It's not a bad thing, but I like wandering around and seeing an 8 breasted herm demon shopping at like bare rose for a cape. I'm not grossed out by it. It tickles me in the same way those skins with way too much boob shading do. It's over sexed to the point it's funny.

There are some people out there who look like noobs with their panis on their midriffs, but then there are those who just pull off being a big scary sex demon, hats off to them I say! I'll be honest. It's been about 2 weeks since I last logged into SL for more than a couple minutes. I don't miss it and somehow, through the magic of offline emails, it's managed to piss me off considerably.

I need a customer service person. I don't know who yet; I need to ask a couple friends if they would mind handling it for a few bucks a week or free stuff or whatever.

Right now, even if I wasn't working 11+ hours every day until the 24th, I would not want to log on. That's how annoyed I am. I need a buffer between myself and those few obnoxious people in SL so send me these IMs.

I just want to make shit. I'm not forcing anyone to buy it. I'm not even charging much to own it considering the retarded amount of time I put into making it. So these fucking IMs are just baffling to me.

I just found something totally worth $4k though. Classes at Harvard extention school are $1725 each and my company will reimburse the cost if i get at least a B in the class. If I take 3 classes and get 3 Bs, I can enroll to get my Masters in Computer Science and Digital Design from Harvard.

Battlefield Earth --I will watch anything that should have been involved with MST3K. I watched this with RiffTrax but I could only get an hour into it before passing out. OMG what a fucking shitty movie. It is like gloriously bad. It was by far the best of the bad movies I watched.

I made an alt for fun (not so much, what the fuck is the point of SL if you don't build?) And some chick took the time to IM me and call me a noob cause I was at a store buying shit, and when the lucky chair came up with my letter the people were like, it's your letter, I looked to see if of the crowd anyone had the same letter. They didn't so I turned the chair. Did I want the shit from the chair? No. Did I go there to actually purchase items from the store? Yes.

So because the person accidentally said "thank you" when she meant Your welcome and I said no prob, she took the time to IM me after I left to let me know my 6 day old account was a noob and to explain proper lucky chair etiquette. And her 3 year account, that is only in freebie and lucky chair groups, with the exception of the xcite group, is obviously far more learned than I.

Second thing to note today while the grumpy bullet has hit me:
Linden Labs finally fixed the issue where prim textures would not match the body mesh textures. For over a year many designers have been compensating by adding a 10-20% grey tint to clothing attachments.

So before you go off on your personal blog about how designers fail at life for not making prims match, think of this:
The designers who busted their ass working hard to get their stuff to work with windlight have attachments that look like crap and don't match because the bug was finally fixed.
All the designers who didn't do shit are golden.

Yesterday was pretty sweet. I did not get hosed during the yankee swap as I did last year when I got the sweet rocking chair reindeer that sings when you press his paw. This year I picked 3rd to last and it was a hard choice between what looked like a gallon of Captain Morgan's and $40 of itunes cards.

I got the iTunes. I wish someone got me emusic credits like last year though, cause I went through their 100 best albums of 2008 last night and I want like 40 of them. Most of them are post rock, but I DL'd the 5 that I liked that weren't post rock for now. I did get some credits for Amazon MP3s, which I looked at this morning, and the music it suggested to me was so spot on that I'm convinced they have spyware connected to my machine. It's kinda creepy.

We exchanged presents last night after we got home. If I haven't mentioned it, I told B I was getting him something pretty huge, and he responded "a piano?" Because he's a smartass. So I said yes, I'm getting you a baby grand. And he said "if you loved me you'd get me a proper grand piano."

What I was really getting him was an iPhone. But since he's such a smartass, I went on ebay and purchased a toy baby grand electronic piano. It looks like what Schroder uses in the Peanuts. It came and I wrapped it and everytime B looked at the bag he's like what's in there? And I'd say "it's your piano" and he'd be like "hehehehe."

Last night he was very surprised to see he actually got a piano. I waited until he opened everthing and started playing with it before I gave him the iPhone gift card.

I got everything on my previously posted list, minus new mustache glasses. Tea press, rice cooker, Saints Row 2 (for PS3 instead of Xbox360, but we are going to exchange it tomorrow) and my surprise gift which is like a counter grill, but it's also a skillet and has detachable plates. It should be easier to clean than my George Forman which is like, a beast.

My dad got me a GPS for my car. I haven't used it yet because people driving around now are fooking crazy so I don't want to go far from the house.

I don't really understand how my tea press works yet. I wish I had loose tea to use it with, but Bill says I can just rip open my tea bags.
Ok that's my pre-christmas day summary. I'm going back to bed for another hour before we have to get ready to go out again.

I based this hair on pictures of Disembodied Hand's RL handsome self. He gave me a bunch of reference pictures and now my skybox looks like I'm stalking him.

This is plain old non scripted hair. Nice and messy too. I already have a hair called Disembodied, so I named this one after his fancy man mustache, which is called a Hoke-troika according to this poster on the internet about beards.

Now it's time for me to go all single white female on Dis. \o/ yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

How do Gritty Bucks work?

You purchase the gift card from me, it's NO COPY, Transfer.

Pass it to the person you'd like to gift it to. They will follow the directions, fill out a notecard contained within the gift card with their NAME and the items they would like with the colors and prices of the items they would like. They then pass the Gritty Bucks PRIM that contains their notecarded list inside & my script, back to me.

If I don't get the scripted prim that looks like Gritty Bucks, I'm not fullfilling the order. Passing me just the full perm note card contained within does not = you owning a gift card. I tested passing these with my alt and my friends and I know that what I'm asking can be done and that it's easy.

So again:
TO REDEEM THE GIFT CARD, YOU MUST PASS THE GRITTY BUCKS PRIM WITH THE SCRIPT AND YOUR SHOPPING LIST TO ME. It's not rocket science. It's something everyone over the age of 18 should be able to handle.

I get to build and design the 404 and other broken site pages for the project I'm working on. We want to go along the lines of fail whale and less "404: blah blah text."
Paul says to remember that if they are done well, they will be the official design that is kept when we launch the site.

My brain says "be professional! this is a great portfolio piece," but my guts say "LOLCAT."

Then my brain starts singing "hamster on a piano eating a popcorn" and I'm pretty much mentally done for the day.

I think I'm coming down with either the flu of a case of the "I don't want to work no more and just want to watch horror movies" because I'm not feeling that productive. Last night I did the Locos Pocos xmas hunt and Bill rented the Zohan movie with Adam Sandler. Guess what? Zohan was terrible. Stop being so shocked.

Tonight I'm either going to bust my ass to make 2 hairs that I really really really want to wear in game, or I'm going to watch Cube 2 on fearNet even though I have never seen the first one.

I'm running out of prims in Koreshan. I have to start thoroughly kissing Chicanery's butt (which I will), but as a back up I need to start looking for something a little bit... uh... bigger.

15000 prims bigger.

I really don't want to own a sim. Monthly teir is like $300 a month, and to buy a sim will cost me $1k USD. That means for the first year I will pay $4600 USD on something that is not tangible, and more often than not is the reason I get heartburn and migranes.

The only way I can talk myself into this is if I find a really cheap sim to buy from someone. I fail at buying land. If anyone has heard of a friend of a friend wanting to get rid of their full or OS for cheap, could you please ask them to IM me?

You'll have to pry my rotting clinging corpse away from Koreshan. If I did get a sim, it would be butted up against Koreshan. Possibly in the spot of ocean behind my shop now.

There is always the case that I can mooch more prims out of Kore and not have to worry about this. But I have less than 500 prims left and that's like... 9 hair vendors. Boo.
