I think that's just the internal tissue that they had to stitch up, my mum had her thyroid removed last year (fancy a scar across your neck!) and that was a bit bumpy inside as well for a while.
My dad went through the exact same thing and he had swollen tummy for some time. Nothing to worry about :) (just be sure that it doesn't last too long)
...and it's not even true that you can't eat garbage food anymore for the rest of your life ;)
P.S. Be glad they sent you home so early, he stayed in hospital for almost a week!!!
